European buyers ask about labelling late in the process and then discover it changes the pack. Here is what is actually required on a home-textile product sold in the EU, and where the cost hides.
The information that must appear
- Fibre composition, in descending order by weight, using the official EU fibre names. Generic marketing descriptions are not accepted.
- Country of origin of the finished product. Rules of origin for labelling are separate from customs origin β do not assume one answer covers both.
- Care instructions. The symbols themselves are standardised, but the sequence and the wash temperature you choose become a contractual claim once printed.
- EU responsible person or manufacturer identification and a traceable batch or style reference.
Where the real cost sits
The printing is cheap. The expensive part is the specification change it forces β a label that does not match the composition of the fabric actually shipped turns into a customs or consumer-authority problem, and that is a recall conversation rather than a reprint.
Buyers who fix the composition and care symbols before the fabric is ordered pay almost nothing for compliance. Buyers who change fabric mid-production pay for new labels, new cartons and lost shelf time.
Questions worth asking a supplier early
- Will the label be applied in the country of manufacture, and who signs off the artwork?
- If the fabric is substituted, does the composition on the label change? Who checks that?
- Which test report supports the care symbols β and is it for the fabric lot actually shipped?
How we handle it
Labelling artwork is produced to your specification and checked against the fabric lot before packing. Where a range is produced through our Nantong manufacturing network, the same label check is applied. We will confirm which test reports we hold for a given fabric before you commit, and we will tell you if a report does not cover the construction you have specified.
Send us your destination market and product construction and we will confirm the labelling and documentation position with the quotation.
